"Fracking" or "hydraulic fracturing" is a special way of
natural gas promotion. It's a controversial way and has his pros and cons. First of all, I want to give a small introducion into "what is hydraulic fracturing exactlly?".
Hydraulic fracturing is all about pressing a big amount of water,
treated with chemicals, below the earth's surface and "crack" layers of rock. This way, the existing gas escapes from the rocks and can be pumped up trough special pipes.
This process wastes a lot of water and
contaminates the earth. It ruins the ground and make it unusable for any kind of agriculture. A further problems is the contaminated water. The process of cleaning and decontaminating takes a lot of energy is very expensive.
All in all, it is a good way to promote gas that's difficult to access, but the side effects give them a very big down side when it comes to reliability.
